The World of the Monologue

Posted on July 18, 2015August 3, 2017 by Kal Sabir

Kal recently attended another amazing workshop at the Actors Centre, called ‘The World of the Monologue’ led by Chris New. The day-long workshop addressed the challenges in bringing a monologue to the stage, creating drama and conflict on stage by yourself, exploring techniques to make sense of the text and bringing the words to life […]

Kal as an actor is a gift to a writer because he pays close attention to the text, examining and questioning it so that he has everything he needs for his performance. In addition to this whilst working on my play The Wet Desert he proved himself to be a good company member - generous and supportive to his fellow actors. It was a pleasure to work with him as he made the play better. He is an experienced theatre artist who would be a bonus to any theatre company.

George Gunn, playwright

Kal is a professional and dedicated actor. It was a pleasure to work with him throughout the devising process for Home is Where... I was impressed with the level of detail he gave to crafting his character and his commitment to the project. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him for any  upcoming role.

It was great working with Kal on Jasmine. First and foremost he executed his role really well, ensuring it was delivered in a natural, believable and meaningful way. He took direction really well, brought some good ideas to the table and worked very well with his fellow actors. But more than that he was very patient and helpful with the young student actors, introducing some useful exercise to help them overcome difficulties and ensure their contributions were always authentic. This helped me a great deal as a mentor (director) of the project.

Richard Wilson, producer and director, Richie Rich Productions

Kal joined my production of Romeo and Juliet after we had to do a last minute recast of Capulet.  With a week to go before we opened he started rehearsing and immediately became off book.  By opening night he had mastered a very emotional and challenging role.  A true professional, Kal was a dream to work with and I would not hesitate in casting him again in the future.

Brooke Johnston, director

Kal joined the cast of Romeo and Juliet in the part of Lord Capulet late on in the rehearsal process. He quickly got to grips with the text and did an outstanding job in the role with a lot of pressure due to the short time frame. The result was a memorable performance in a sold out, critically acclaimed contemporary production.

Richard Crawford, producer/director at Secret Theatres

Kal was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. His commitment and passion were clear in everything he did, from getting in touch with him initially to working with him on set. He is great at taking direction and goes the extra mile in making sure that he performs exactly as required (often even exceeding expectations). A consummate professional, I look forward to working with him again in the near future.

Topher Batchelor, writer and producer at Fat Free Media

Kal is a thoughtful and dedicated performer. He's always willing to try new ideas, has a great sense of humour, and is a pleasure to work with.
